Daffodil blossom Eifel

Wild daffodils in the Eifel transform meadows into carpets of yellow flowers.

It is a colorful and rare natural spectacle that can be seen in spring in the Perlenbach and Fuhrtsbach valleys near Monschau and in the Oleftal valley near Hellenthal in the Eifel: Around six million small daffodils growing wild spread out into large yellow carpets and herald the arrival of spring. They are spread over an area of around 280 hectares - apart from the Eifel, these meadows with wild-flowering daffodils can only be found in the Hunsrück.

Hikes to the daffodils

Discover daffodils on your own

The Eifel is worth a visit at any time of year, but in spring - especially in April - the wild daffodils with their bright yellow color are a real attraction. A hike is a special treat at this time of year. The Perlenbachtal valley near Monschau-Höfen is easy to discover on your own - there is an almost fifteen-kilometre-long hiking trail called the "Narcissus Route", and a tip for families with children is the Kölschkier forest adventure trail.
In the Oleftal valley near Hellenthal, there are two signposted circular trails to the daffodils from the Hollerather Knie parking lot.

Exhibition at the Höfen National Park Gate
If you don't want to hike through the daffodil meadows or are out and about outside the flowering season, you can visit an interesting exhibition at the Monschau-Höfen National Park Gate. It also includes a slide show and a film about the wild daffodils.
