Description

Roetgen and the threads of the past

Through the "village of weavers": The weavers' trail leads for around eight kilometers through the historic center of Roetgen and into the open countryside on the edge of the High Fens.

At six stations, the route tells the story of the heyday and decline of the Roetgen cloth industry: from home weaving and the first mechanical looms to the wool laundry on the Weserbach and the Forell cloth factory, whose success once reached as far as the Prussian court.

The route is easy to follow and runs along easy village, forest and meadow paths. It is ideal for a half-day excursion into the history of Roetgen - for anyone who wants to experience how closely the development of an Eifel village was linked to the rhythm of looms, water and change.

Highlights of the route

  • Traces of Roetgen's weaving tradition from the 18th to the 20th century
  • Historic house and family weaving mills with typical construction methods
  • Couven-style architecture and evidence of the industrial boom
  • Historic and contemporary workshops where weaving still takes place today
