The Großer Dauner home trail leads through the countryside around the town of Daun and along the maars. It can be walked in countless variations via the Vulkaneifel trails and the Eifelsteig.
Before you set off...
It happens from time to time that sections of the trail have to be temporarily diverted or closed. Just take a look at www.gesundland-vulkaneifel.de/info/wege-info/.
As the name suggests, it is an extensive circular tour around the beautiful villages of the Eifel town, through beautiful forests and varied paths. The starting point is Neunkirchen in the direction of Steinborn. Here, you can tap a refreshing mineral water for the road at the "Steinborner Drees" in the town center.
Heading out of the village, the route follows the Vulkangipfel trail along the Asseberg towards Waldkönigen and then turns right through the Rengener Wald forest into the village of the same name, past Boverath through the Daun state forest and the Lehwald forest near Mehren, all the way to the legendary Weinfelder Maar.
This place invites you to relax before this hike along the Pützborn stream ends in Neunkirchen.
Insider tip: End the hike at the Gemündener Maar natural outdoor pool (open from around May to September).
