Hiking around Nettersheim in the footsteps of the Romans through the Northern Eifel

On the EifelSpur Silberschatz circular hiking trail, you hike in the footsteps of the Roman history of the Eifel.

Nettersheim-Marmagen is the starting point for the 10 km hike. The village was already mentioned in Roman times as Vicus Marcomagus and is located on the VIA Agrippa from Trier to Cologne. Marmagen also gained a little fame as the place of origin of the ancestors of the famous Eiffel Tower builder Gustave Eiffel.

A special point along the way is the partially reconstructed matronly sanctuary "Görresburg", on a hill between Nettersheim and Marmagen. The Roman matrons were worshipped here in Roman times. Even today, one or two offerings to the mysterious goddesses can be found in front of their images on the consecration stones erected in the sanctuary. The temple district is part of the Nettersheim Archaeological Landscape Park, which you can enjoy a wonderful view of from here.
