Why would you want to explore Monschau’s places of interest by foot when you can ride comfortably on the town train and learn about the history of the cloth makers’ town? During the 30 minute round trip, we will show you Monschau and travel high up to the castle where you can enjoy the panorama with a view of the town in the valley and the Haller Ruin.

The main building of Burgau Castle has an eventful past. Having been originally built at the start of the 14th century by the Counts von Heinsberg and assigned to the fiefdom of Wilhelm von Burgau, the picturesque moated castle has since had quite a makeover.

The 10.5 km Dreiser Kreuze-Weg begins in Kirchstraße, where a remnant of the gallows cross, dated 1599, is attached to the outer facade of the municipal office (Station 1), the oldest cross in the Dreis district.

The restaurant is a household name in the culinary scene in the South Eifel region, with a touch of French cuisine and fine wines. Preparation of the dishes only from the best and fresh market products. Beef, pork and veal come from Eifel farms. Fresh trout from the Ourtal and game from local forests.

If you start at the parking lots of the train stations in Obermaubach or Untermaubach, you will quickly reach the Obermaubach reservoir (also a parking lot), where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the reservoir. This low-traffic loop is easy to cycle, but requires cyclists to be in good physical condition.

This tour is varied and only moderately challenging with a steep single trail north of Vossenack. It leads over gentle undulations and steeper climbs from the plateau of the Hürtgen Forest into the adjacent valleys. You can start the low-traffic circuit from one of the parking lots, e.g. in Vossenack (church) or Hürtgen (cemetery or sports field) or Germeter (parking lot at the edge of the forest, Zweifaller Weg).
