Schmidt is surrounded by forest and is located right next to the Eifel National Park. Lake Rursee is only 2 km away and is ideal for swimming, fishing, canoeing, sailing and diving. The vacation resort of Schmidt is situated on a high plateau approx. 480m above sea level, in the Rur Eifel directly on the Rursee. A good starting point for hikers and water sports enthusiasts.

The stage from Höfen to Einruhr is the most challenging of the four stages of the Wilderness Trail. In addition to the comparatively many kilometers that you cover, you also have to climb quite a few meters in altitude.
