During the fall mushroom season, we invite you to explore the local mushroom species, their characteristics, and unique features in the Süssendell forest area near Stolberg under the guidance of an expert—including tips on how to use them. The approximately 3-hour educational hike is led by Dr. Uwe Koch, a mushroom expert certified by the German Society for Mycology. He will take you on a fascinating journey of discovery into the world of mushrooms in the Stolberg forest. How do you identify mushrooms, what should you watch out for when collecting them, and which mushrooms should you definitely avoid? These and many other questions will be answered on-site. Please bring a mushroom basket, a (folding) knife, sturdy footwear, and weatherproof clothing; the hike takes place in all weather conditions. The focus of the tour is on sharing knowledge—however, if you happen to collect a few mushrooms, they will be inspected by our mushroom expert afterward and deemed safe for consumption. Please note that the hike takes place mostly off paved paths. The route is therefore not suitable for strollers. Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted; we appreciate your understanding.
