Experience the largest operating technology museum

Experience the lively past in the historic watermill Birgel! On selected days, the technology museum comes to life and takes you on a journey back to the time when watermills, stationary engines, and steam engines set the pace of progress. Let yourself be inspired by the impressive variety of our fully functional machines: from the majestic steam engine, built in 1917, through the mechanical oil press, which has been pressing fresh oil for over 130 years, to the three-story grain mill, which forms the heart of the mill. Every detail tells a story of craftsmanship, ingenuity, and hard work.

    Kapelle St. Ottilia in Kirchwald

    The St. Ottilia chapel is somewhat hidden on the footpath to the Riedener Mühle, right on the edge of the forest. The very neat chapel was built in 1897 by a certain F.W. Hilger, for the salvation of his eyesight.

    Tithes and monastery barns already existed in the early Middle Ages. They served as warehouses for the acceptance and storage of the natural tax, the "tithe". In Lüxem, the Counts of Manderscheid, among others, acted as bailiffs for the Abbey of St. Maximin in Trier and collected the tithes for the monks.
