In countless twists and turns, the Our winds through the slate slopes of Islek. From the observation point at Waldhof Falkenstein, there is a fantastic view of the notable bend of the Our Valley with the Falkenstein Castle.


The Our is a border river between Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany that has shaped a romantic landscape.

The valley of the Our offers untouched nature and rich cultural history. Characteristic are the many bends of the valley and the constant change between wide and narrow sections. One of the most impressive views is of the distinctive Our valley loop near Waldhof-Falkenstein.

First mentioned in the 12th century, the Falkenstein Castle (privately owned) is one of the cultural highlights at the Our valley loop. Technology enthusiasts can visit one of the largest pumped storage power plants in Europe in Vianden (Luxembourg).

A hike around the Our valley loop on the Nat’Our Route 4 of the Naturwanderpark Deluxguarantees the most beautiful postcard motifs and cultural highlights.

    Hochsimmerturm Ettringen

    The "Hochsimmerturm" is an 18 m high observation tower on the mountain of the same name "Hochsimmer", which rises near the municipality of Ettringen. The "Hochsimmerturm" was built between 1909 and 1911 by the "Eifelverein Mayen" and stands on the eastern tip (583.3 m above sea level) of the "Hochsimmer".

    Fischbach-Drees bei Birresborn

    The magnesium-calcium mineralisation here comes from sandstone and claystone as well as overlying volcanic rock. The high content of carbonic acid originates from the Eifel volcanism and gives the water the name ‘Säuerling’ (acidulous). A total of five springs are known in Birresborn, several of which were of great economic importance. Today, drinking water can be taken from the Lindenquelle and the Fischbach-Drees.
