Experience more together in the ducal town of Nideggen - excursion destination Nideggen
A castle sits enthroned on a rock above the historic town. We are talking about the former ducal town of Nideggen on the northern edge of the Eifel, which has a lot to offer thanks to its legendary history.

Small corners, quiet alleyways - a walk through the town
Stroll through the pretty old town alleyways lined with half-timbered houses and learn more about the Nideggen of old. The well-preserved town gates with the red sandstone town wall are also particularly worth seeing. From the market square, wildly romantic alleyways lead you directly to perhaps the town's most important landmark, Nideggen Castle.

Good to know: The historical town tours on various topics provide even more insights.

Stately flair - the castle complex
Nideggen Castle towers impressively over the town center. It is protected on three sides by vertically sloping cliffs and the only access is via the castle gates. But don't worry, the climb is worth it. Once at the top, guests are greeted with a fantastic view of the Rur valley. This is followed by interesting insights into medieval castle life in the former residence of the Counts of Jülich. The keep, the oldest part of the complex, is also home to the Rhineland Castle Museum.

Good to know: Treat yourself to a culinary break and take the opportunity to visit one of the castle's restaurants.

Forest, meadows and water - beyond the city limits
Once you leave the city limits of Nideggen, you are immediately immersed in the natural diversity of the Eifel National Park. Around 300 kilometers of hiking trails and an excellent network of cycle paths are available for you to explore the surrounding area on your own. Great hiking tours around the Eugenienstein offer magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding region. Climbing enthusiasts, or those who want to become one, are in good hands on tours around the "Buntsandsteinfelsen im Rurtal" nature reserve.

Good to know: Looking to cool off on hot summer days? Then head to the Eschauel natural bathing beach on Lake Rursee.
