“The mill clatters by the rushing stream” - guided tour to the six former mills of the Säubrenner town.As part of the cultural-historical exhibition “Mills in Liesertal” at the Old Town Hall in the marketplace, the Tourist Information Wittlich City & Land and the Cultural Office of the town offer exciting tours along the six former mills in the urban area.

Hiking guide Albert Klein takes participants on a journey through the fascinating history of Wittlich’s millers and the town’s history, which has been shaped by water power. The roughly two-hour tour evokes nostalgic childhood memories of clattering millwheels, swimming with fish in the natural swimming pool, and the scent of freshly baked bread. Anecdotes about the resourceful miller Anton, who built his mill on the electoral waters in 1739 without the nobility’s permission, or about the quaint beer garden at the Viezmühle, which for many Wittlich residents was synonymous with summer and bliss: With a twinkle in his eye, Albert Klein shares well-researched historical knowledge and reveals some of the closely guarded secrets of Wittlich’s miller families.

This unique mill experience is rounded out with the enjoyment of locally produced Viez, freshly baked bread, and delicious dips.
