Guided tours to the volcanic lakes of the Eifel - Today's Maar: Gemündener Maar

The Gemünden Maar is the smallest of the Daun Maars, but its deep crater gives it the steepest slopes. The completely forested slopes give the maar an air of mystery and seclusion. As a result, it has always been somewhat off the beaten path. The maar is well-known and popular as a swimming lake with its outdoor pool.

The maar is nestled within Lower Devonian rock layers—420 million years of Earth’s history have shaped the landscape
around the maar—an unimaginably long time. We want to bring this to life interactively and set out to search for traces within the maar’s crater!
