A walk through Stolberg: Old Town, Stolberg Castle and Kupferhöfe

Small, winding alleyways with houses made of local limestone and hewn bluestone on doors, windows and wall edges await you on a walk through Stolberg's Old Town.
As you stroll, you take a leisurely look at the traditional house facades and notice that despite the long history of development of the old town and the influence of the industrial era, a homogeneous appearance has emerged.
You walk through Burgstrasse, Schartstrasse, Klatterstrasse and Enkereistrasse, which were the main streets until the end of the 19th century.
Once you reach Klatterstraße, you will find yourself in front of the oldest surviving half-timbered house dating back to 1529.
Next to it is house number 12 from the 18th century, which used to be a brewery.
In its cellars there was a pond (moat) from the weir that cooled the beer.
Your walk ends at the castle rock and shows you Stolberg's landmark, the defiant medieval castle from the 12th century.
It towers over the old town of Stolberg on a limestone rock and looks back on 500 years of construction history.
Last but not least, take a look at the copper farms in the valley axis near the Vichtbach stream.
The early modern courtyards are another characteristic feature of the town.
However, you will not come across uniform buildings, but rather very individual courtyards.
In the pre-industrial residential and commercial complexes, there are copper courtyards that resemble palaces or simple craftsmen's workshops.
You should bring enough time with you to visit the old town, the castle and the copper courtyards so that you can see everything in a relaxed manner.

Guided tours of the old town: The approx. 1.5-hour tours through the alleyways of the old town to the castle perched high on a limestone promontory. Our experienced tour guide Fatima Küsters will tell you many interesting details about one of the most important historic city centers in North Rhine-Westphalia. In the 1980s, the historic quarter was extensively renovated and a liveable and lovable residential area was created, interspersed with inviting restaurants and exciting cultural highlights. Don't forget your camera, of course, as there is another sight waiting around every corner and in every nook and cranny of the narrow alleyways!

Meeting point: Galminusbrunnen (opposite Stolberg-Touristik, Zweifaller Str. 5)
