The tour begins with an overnight stay in Trier.

The date of its foundation in 16 BC gives Augusta Treverorum the title of "oldest city in Germany". The people of Trier are proud of their "Pochta", as the Porta Nigra, the Roman city gate, is called in the Moselle-Franconian dialect, as well as the basilica, the amphitheater and the Imperial Baths. Eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites are within walking distance in and around the city center.

A large number of rivers and streams run through the natural landscape of the Eifel. Over millions of years, these river courses have cut deep into the low mountain range landscape of the Eifel. Many of them are accompanied by cycle routes in the immediate vicinity. This is also the case on this stage, which opens up the unique landscape along the Sauer, Prüm and Nims rivers.

Once you arrive at your destination, you can see, hear, feel, smell and taste what makes the beer of the same name so special at the Bitburger Erlebniswelt. The Bitburger brewery, founded in 1817 in the southern Eifel region, is one of the most important premium breweries in Germany.

Impressive buildings such as the keep and collegiate church of Kyllburg, Malberg Castle, the Cistercian nunnery in St. Thomas and Bertrada Castle are located along the way or can be reached via smaller detours.

In the wooded Kyll valley, especially around Birresborn, there are caves and natural monuments as well as well-known healing springs. The Helenenquelle spring near Gerolstein town hall gushes fresh mineral water from a depth of around 90 m and can be drunk free of charge from the brass tap (from April to October).

Gerolstein is surrounded by a densely wooded valley landscape, which is characterized by the mighty dolomite rocks and almost 20 extinct volcanoes.

You cycle along the Kyll cycle path towards Belgium and directly into the landscape of the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park, which is characterized by high and low moors, heaths and forests. The word "Venn" comes from Latin and means swamp or mire. Wooden footbridges, signs and flags make it clear that people and moorland must be protected from each other here.

For over a century, the Vennbahn was the iron link between Aachen and the north of Luxembourg. Today, it is one of the longest railroad cycle paths in Europe.

The Eifel-Ardennes Cycle Route also runs along a former railroad line and is now a symbol of the close ties between the German-Belgian border region and also geographically connects the Ardennes mountain plateau with the Eifel.

Don't miss the Belgian frites, which you can get at one of the many "fritures". In addition to frites, Belgium is also known for its waffles and beer.

Deeply incised river valleys and mountain ranges of up to 570 m characterize the "rough" Islek, a cross-border region in the border triangle of Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium. As the route runs almost exclusively along former railroad lines, you can glide from the Islek through the South Eifel Nature Park to the "mild" Bitburger Gutland with its sun-drenched, colorful orchards.

The only hop-growing area in Rhineland-Palatinate is located near Holsthum. Here, hop farmer Andreas Dick ensures that the hops grown there are used exclusively for the premium beers of the Bitburger brand.

Between Holsthum and Irrel, you drive right past the up to 8 m high Hofenstangen. This is an experience, especially when the hops are in bloom between the end of May and mid-September.

In the lower reaches of the Prüm, the river has dug deep into the sandstone and created a gorge-like valley. The famous Devil's Gorge, to the west of the Prüm, was formed when huge rockfalls were triggered during the last Ice Age.

Another particularly remarkable object is the Igel Column from the 3rd century, which has only been preserved over the centuries due to a misinterpretation of the family portrait on the front.
