Small rivers meander through the landscape and lead the way - mostly on well-developed former railroad lines or on paved farm tracks through the landscape of the southern Eifel.
From Bitburg, the tour follows the former railroad line along the Nims towards Irrel. You continue along the Prüm to Minden, which lies on the border with Luxembourg. The route then continues on the Luxembourg side of the Sûre. In Born, you can sample a typical Luxembourg cider at the Ramborn winery before arriving in Langsur. At your accommodation, the Johannishof winery, you can enjoy a glass of the Elbling wine typical of the region. What an unknown discovery, although the white wine grape is one of the oldest in Europe.
Well rested, the next day you cycle back along the Sauer on the German side to Steinheim. From there, the cycle stage leads past Welschbillig through the Bitburger Gutland back to the starting point. In the beer town of Bitburg, you can round off the day with a world-famous Pilsner.
On the third day, one of the Bitburger rally tours invites you to explore the Bitburger Land. For example, the city-country-river tour. It takes you from Bitburg city center to the Roman Villa Otrang. On the second section of the route, you are accompanied by the Nims. In Rittersdorf, it is worth stopping at the 700-year-old moated castle of Rittersdorf, which houses a privately run restaurant serving fine country cuisine.
Tip:
Due to the planned electrification of the Eifel line by Deutsche Bahn, the cycle path in the Kyll valley is closed at times and trains are canceled. We have therefore had to adapt the route, which means that the tour is actually only a 4-valley tour. But it still invites you to explore the varied nature of the southern Eifel.
