The townscape of Prüm, located in the middle of the Belgium-Luxembourg-Germany border triangle, is characterized by the magnificent baroque architecture of St. Salvator's Basilica with its two towers and the nave of the former Benedictine Abbey of Prüm. In the early Middle Ages, it was one of the most important educational centers of Christianity in Europe.

Today, the abbey is home to the Regio-Gymnasium.

Deeply incised river valleys and mountain ranges of up to 570 m characterize the "rough" Islek, a cross-border region in the border triangle of Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium. As the route runs almost exclusively along former railroad lines, you can glide from the Islek through the South Eifel Nature Park to the "mild" Bitburger Gutland with its sun-drenched, colorful orchards.

The only hop-growing area in Rhineland-Palatinate is located near Holsthum. Hop farmer Andreas Dick ensures that the hops grown there are used exclusively for the premium beers of the Bitburger brand.

Between Holsthum and Irrel, you can get very close to the hops that bloom between the end of May and mid-September on the Prüm cycle path. Here you cycle right past the hop poles, which can be up to 8 m high.

In the lower reaches of the Prüm, the river has dug deep into the sandstone and created a gorge-like valley. When huge rockfalls were triggered during the last ice age, the famous Devil's Gorge was also created to the west of the Prüm.

At your destination, you can see, hear, feel, smell and taste what makes the beer of the same name so special at the Bitburger Erlebniswelt. The Bitburger brewery, founded in 1817 in the southern Eifel region, is one of the most important premium breweries in Germany.

The Prüm, the second longest river in the Eifel after the Kyll, accompanies the stage to the destination of Prüm.

The Bitburg reservoir with its picturesque water fountain in the Prüm valley invites you to take a short break on a sun terrace right at the start of the stage. The Devonium Waxweiler Museum tells the exciting story of evolution. It is hard to believe that in the Devonian period, Waxweiler was located in a river delta, comparable to today's Orinoco Delta in Venezuela.

At the end of the tour, we recommend a short detour to neighboring Niederprüm, where excellent bronze and copper works can be seen in the sculpture park.
