Schlosskirche Schleiden

Schleiden

Schleiden Castle Church is one of the most important late Gothic hall churches in the northern Eifel and is particularly famous for its König organ dating from 1770. The castle church was consecrated as a castle chapel in 1230 and replaced by a Gothic church around 1340, the choir of which is still preserved today. Between 1516 and 1525, Dietrich IV von Manderscheid-Schleiden built the three-nave, late Gothic hall, which has remained unchanged ever since.

The still largely original König organ has a Liège Baroque appearance. The division of the organ façade into upper and lower divisions with the pedal chest at the back clearly shows the arrangement of the 30 sounding voices with 1702 pipes in three divisions. The colorful Renaissance windows from 1535 on the front wall of the side aisles show two scenes from the life of Jesus at the top.
