"Eifel Bunker Tour" conveys the history of the Cold War in September and October.

A special kind of time travel is offered by the "Eifel Bunker Tour" on four dates in September and October. As part of a day program, the tour will take you through three civil defense bunkers from the Cold War era, which were established as important players in the "Emergency Plan of Germany" for the third World War.

As early as the mid-1950s, experts at the Federal Ministry of the Interior developed plans for a civil-military leadership that was to be secured for 30 days from fortified command centers. The federal states were also included in the crisis plans. By the early 1960s, an extensive bunker construction program had been implemented.

As a result, both the federal government and the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as their state central bank, had underground, truly bomb-proof work areas. In the 1990s, these concrete and steel testimonies of history were abandoned. Today, they can be visited as part of the "Eifel Bunker Tour" in a day trip easily accessible by bus. Participants will delve into the war and crisis plans of that time, historical backgrounds will be explained along with the complex crisis management system at the federal-state level, and of course, the protective structures themselves in terms of their construction and setup. Exciting and alarming at the same time are the numerous parallels between the serious scenarios of that time and current events. This aspect is also addressed by the event – at the original location, which has long been more than just a discarded testimony for yesterday's models of thought.
