"Maibüsch" Ulmen
Ulmen
On the hike through the Mai- and Brandenbusch at adventure point no. 2 there is a crime scene!
In the May forest, where in times long past the cattle were driven because the poor Eifel soil often grew little fodder, crimes also took place. Station 2 is the scene of the first crime: somewhere in the "Marx hole", at an unknown location, two Ulmen parishioners killed the local priest Johann Schweißthal in 1719. In documents he is described as extremely domineering and quarrelsome, but the cause of his maltreatment is, so to speak, hushed up. A very ominous case, except that the two perpetrators were brothers who were subsequently excommunicated. Presumably, the manslaughter was based on border disputes.
