Erlenbrunnen

Erlenbrunnen

Mendig

The Erlenbrunnen (also called "Erlebuhr", "Saurebuhr" or "Eedel" (after a nearby quarry)) is located between Bell and Mendig and was built in 1809.
People who live in Bell like to use it as a resting place on the footpath to Mendig.
However, due to the location - at least in popular thinking - it is not clear to which municipality this well belongs. Since the fountain has two outlets, over time the vernacular has gotten used to referring to the upper outlet as Bell and the lower Mendig, which means that as a Beller you are often (jokingly) viewed critically when you leave the "Mennije Boo "drinks.
The alder fountain was renovated in 1931, 1964 and 1988 and associations from both communities are responsible for maintaining the fountain.

The fountain is on the route of the "Traumpfad Four Mountains Tour".
