Juniper heathlands, Vordereifel region

The juniper heathlands of the Vordereifel region are a real insider tip. They were created as a result of a particular form of land management.

Blumenrather Heide

The Blumenrather Heide lies east of the local community of Virneburg on a plateau. In 2006 and 2007, large-scale measures were carried out here as part of an extensive nature conservation project. The blackthorn and gorse hedges were removed, bushy areas cleared and numerous trees and shrubs felled. This has allowed fauna and flora typical of the heath to be established again in the past few decades.
