Martinszug wie früher auf dem Dorf
Nov 3, 2024
Mechernich-Kommern
Parade through the museum's historical buildings.
St Martin on horseback welcomes families and children's groups to the LVR Open-Air Museum Kommern. He will then lead the "St Martin's procession as it used to be in the village", which will make its way through the museum's building groups and forest, illuminated with stable lanterns and lanterns. Just like in the legend of the saint, Martin will share his coat with a beggar by the big fire.
An old tractor-drawn carriage with St Martin's geese and goslings will accompany the St Martin's procession. Bands play St Martin's songs, which are hardly known today. A "museum farmer's wife" will tell the legends surrounding St Martin in a barn before the start of the St Martin's procession. Guests young and old are particularly welcome to bring along lanterns of the past, such as turnip lanterns. Every year, hundreds of families from all over the Rhineland take part in this St Martin's procession.
At the end of the lantern procession, St Martin distributes St Martin's wreaths in the historic dance hall with cocoa, children's punch and mulled wine for the adults.
