Der Westwall im Oberen Kylltal

Der Westwall im Oberen Kylltal

Ormont

The West Wall, also known as the "Siegfried Line" by the Western Allies, was a military defense system spread over around 630 km along the western border of the German Reich, consisting of over 18,000 bunkers, tunnels and countless trenches and anti-tank obstacles. It ran from Kleve on the Dutch border southwards to the Swiss border.

The West Wall was built by the National Socialists between 1936 and 1940, who saw military and propaganda value in the complex.

Numerous blasted bunkers and the hump line can still be seen in the area around Ormont along an approx. 6 km long hiking route. The tour requires sure-footedness and runs mostly through meadows and woodland. Difficulty level "medium". Hardly any inclines. Refreshment stop: Inn "Bei Lonnen".

Price: € 5.00 per person, € 8.00 for couples, children up to 10 years free.
