Vulkan- und Panoramaweg rund um Burgbrohl
Burgbrohl
The starting point of the tour begins at the newly designed spa gardens of Brohltalaue Ost in Burgbrohl (parking available) with water playground, bubbling geyser and leads through an idyllic forest path along the Brohlbach stream to the easy path ascent with volcanic rock formations and the information board about the lava course of the Lummerfeld and Veitskopf. The path continues downhill into the lower Brohl valley, past huge trass walls to the trass caves. Now you follow a steep ascent path (surefootedness required), with a beautiful view of the viaduct with railroad tracks of the Vulkanexpress, and further on to the Teufelsberg with a great view of the lower Brohl valley. The trail continues slightly uphill to a barbecue hut with a great panoramic view.
As an alternative to the steep ascent, you can also choose an easily accessible path via the Pfaffental valley.
The hike now takes you along a beautiful natural path, continuing along open field paths to the Heiligenhäuschen (known as the Fluchtkapelle) around the district of Lützingen (further parking available at the local building yard) to a viewpoint on the Herchenberg. Once you arrive at a great viewing platform, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the crater with its emerald-green mountain lake (depending on the daylight). At the same time, there is a fantastic all-round view. The path now leads past the Holy Trinity Chapel, down to the end of the forest and to the Beunerhof (rest bench). The route now takes a gentle descent and a nature trail down to the hamlet of Weiler (refreshments available at Landgasthaus Rothbrust). Continue along a meadow path, along the Brohlbach stream and the railroad line, then over a bridge over the idyllic Brohlbach stream, along field paths to the Almersbach forest area and on to Buchholz. Here it is worth taking a detour to visit the former Buchholz provostry (possibly with a guided tour by prior arrangement). The last section of the route runs along a nearby vineyard cottage and past the Fatima Chapel, down to the Burgbrohl Castle Hotel (refreshments available) to the starting point, the Brohltalaue East Spa Park. At the end, it is worth visiting the historic Kaiserhalle, the landmark of Burgbrohl, 100 meters away.
