Kylltaler Buntsandsteinroute

Auw an der Kyll

Share content:

Every hiker who enjoys the contrast of high plateaus and deep valleys will love this tour. Several trenches (Grundsgraben, Kalkgraben, Schulersgraben), as well as the valley of the river Kyll, guarantee a diverse hiking experience.

The old red sandstone quarries are evidence of a natural stone industry steeped in history. The interplay of red rocks and the green leaves of the beech trees is mesmerising.

Hikers pass through the picturesque town of Auw an der Kyll, which is surrounded by forests and red sandstone. The old venerable church in the town centre is a unique sight. The sandstone waterfalls of the trench Stillegraben are both bizarre and graceful. After crossing the woods around Orenhofen, hikers reach the highest point of the tour called "Burgknopp", a medieval castle hill.
