Kretzer Bachtal - RKre2
Kretz
Directions:
From the parking lot next to the church, turn left down the main road. Then turn right into the road "In der Hohl", which you follow for a short distance and then turn left after the bridge over the "Krufter Bach" into a small country lane (not Plaidter Straße, but in front of it). The path leads you through idyllic fields until you reach another bridge over the "Krufter Bach" and pass it. Behind the stream, the path leads up the slope and joins another higher path. Turn left there and follow it straight ahead back into the village. Back on the main road, keep left and follow it, past the "Bauernschänke" restaurant, in a sharp right-hand bend further uphill, back to the parking lot.
If you still have time, it is worth making a detour to the Roman mine with its world of ancient technology.
You can reach the Roman mine by following the main road uphill to the main road (B256). Cross the road and take the path diagonally opposite. After a short distance, you will see the parking lot of the Roman mine on your left and the path up to the mine on your left.
Sights along the way:
St. Marien Church: The church of St. Marien was built in 1868 in neo-Gothic style and was extended in 1960. The church is dedicated in "honor of the birth of Mary". Inside there is a statue of the Madonna from the 13th century.
Meurin Roman mine & ancient world of technology: Around 2,000 years ago, the Romans settled in the Pellenz region. They quickly discovered the volcanic tuff as a building material and mined it underground. The result was the largest preserved Roman tuff mine north of the Alps.
