Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
The Jülich-Zülpicher Börde area covers almost 3,000 square kilometers. A cultural landscape that has been shaped by man for centuries. Anyone looking at it in peace almost always starts to wonder: does this landscape lack variety, spectacular scenery? Or does it fascinate precisely because of its vastness, the visual tranquillity and the all the more striking gems such as stream valleys and shell limestone hilltops? You are sure to find the answer for yourself on the Braugerstenpfad.
The Börde owes the fact that the landscape is so strongly characterized by large-scale agricultural use to its fertile loess soil. The sedimentary layer of clay, quartz and limestone from the last glacial period measures up to 15 meters. Thanks to the subsequent warm period and the good climatic conditions, soils developed that are rich in minerals, well aerated and water-retaining.
