Mendiger Vulkanfeld

Mendig

In 1994 the association for a local history museum created a field on Schulstrasse between Ober- and Niedermendig that shows exhibits from the surrounding volcanoes, the volcanic field.

A field on which volcanoes "grow".
In Niedermendiger Göpelwerk in Brauerstrasse, the Mendiger volcanic field has grown. The volcanic field shows a panorama of the young volcanoes in our vicinity.
Rock samples from the volcanoes and the associated lava flows, together with the older slates of the basement, provide an overview of the diversity of the rocks. With the help of a panorama plate set up in the middle, the respective volcano can be recognized in the spectrum of all.

The individual exhibits are set up around the plate and if you look upwards, you can admire the volcano in its natural beauty and integrity in the local landscape

Gleitfalte am Dachsbusch

The mining of volcanic material on the Dachsbusch ate deeper and deeper into the old cinder cone. It gives us an insight into the volcanic and climatic history. The volcanic layers show how they slipped during a cold period about 150,000 years ago due to the alternation of thawing and freezing. The badger bush does not need to fear further depletion, as the area is now a nature reserve. Follow the signposted path to the right up to the gliding fold, where you will find more information.
