Kapelle St. Ottilia in Kirchwald

Kirchwald

The St. Ottilia chapel is somewhat hidden on the footpath to the Riedener Mühle, right on the edge of the forest. The very neat chapel was built in 1897 by a certain F.W. Hilger, for the salvation of his eyesight.

Biotop "Heidetümpel" auf dem Kindgen

From the "Heidetümpel" biotope on the Kindgen, located above the local community of Arft, there is a wonderful view over the pristine landscape of the Vordereifel and unique juniper heather areas. A rest area with benches invites you to rest and relax as well as to observe characteristic animal and plant species.

Pfarrkirche St. Bartholomäus in Boos

Since 1799, Boo's own parish has been. The parish church of St. Bartholomew was built according to plans by Johann Claudius of Lassaulx in 1837-39 and expanded in 1896. Since 1998, the parish has belonged to the new Deanery of Mayen-Mendig.

Aussichtspunkt "Zum Nitzblick"

About 3 kilometers from the municipality of Kirchwald, the visitor gets an impressive view of the Nitztal, which is located below the Kirchwald hills.

Pfarrkirche St. Dionysius in Kirchwald

Today's parish church of St. Dionysius in Kirchwald was built in 1906/1907 and consecrated in 1908. The patron saint is St. Dionysius, Bishop of Paris, the patron saint is October 9th.

Kapelle St. Leonhard in Weiler

At the southern entrance to the village of Weiler (at the corner of Großstraße and Hauptstraße) stands the small chapel of St. Leonhard, a simple building made of plastered rubble stone.

Blumenrather Heide

The Blumenrather Heide lies east of the local community of Virneburg on a plateau. In 2006 and 2007, large-scale measures were carried out here as part of an extensive nature conservation project. The blackthorn and gorse hedges were removed, bushy areas cleared and numerous trees and shrubs felled. This has allowed fauna and flora typical of the heath to be established again in the past few decades.
