Eifel-Blick - "Ruitzhof" in Monschau-Kalterherberg

Monschau

"Ruitzhof" belongs to Monschau-Kalterherberg and lies at 570 meters above sea level. The hamlet, first mentioned in a document in 1205, has been a German exclave since World War II: the farms are surrounded by Belgian territory. Ruitzhof used to belong to the Reichenstein Monastery. The houses on Ruitzhof are often still surrounded by the well-known protective hedges, which were already impressively described in Clara Viebig's novel "The Cross in the Venn".

Haus Troistorff

The inhabitant of Aachen and Master Builder, Couven, constructed the building in 1783 following the model of a townhouse of the nobility for the cloth manufacturer, M.P.W. Troistorff. In an acceptance of the times, the half-timbered house was plastered and decorated with ornamentation. Rich carvings in the doors with supraports and artistic wrought-iron works in the banister and balcony railing testify to the splendour and prosperity of the inhabitants.

Eifel-Blick - "Steling" in Monschau-Mützenich

At 658 meters above sea level, the Steling is the highest elevation in the Aachen region. The excellent visibility was the reason why there was even a fire watch tower on the Steling. The view extends in an easterly direction over the Eifel National Park.
