Durch die Wacholderheiden zum Hippelsteinchen in Gönnersdorf

Gönnersdorf

The limestone ridges in the area of the Eifel limestone hollows are known as the Tuscany of the Eifel. The appearance of the landscape with its impressive juniper heaths is very close to the Italian model. The juniper bushes belong to the cypress family and characterise the southern foothills of the Dollendorf limestone depressions around Gönnersdorf. But this landscape is not only special because of the juniper bushes, but also because of the barren and dry slopes. The nature reserve "Mäuerchenberg, Hirdenberg and Pinnert" in the north-east of the village, with its rare flora and fauna, is a relic of historical forms of farming. Centuries of extensive grazing have created valuable habitats. With a little luck, you can discover orchids and gentians here, or observe colourful butterflies, lizards and slow worms. The highlight of the round tour is the "Hippelsteinchen", a dolomite rock around which numerous legends revolve.

The 4 km long circular route takes about 2.5 hours to complete.

Price: € 5.00 per person, € 8.00 per couple, free for children under 10.
Meeting point: 54584 Gönnersdorf, Zum Hirdenberg (drive straight on from the B 421 to the car park).

May 13, 2025

On this excursion we want to take a closer look at the orchids (magnifying glass!) in order to recognise the variability of these beauties in addition to their fascinating aesthetic beauty. The geological conditions of soil formation, the sometimes changing anthropogenic interventions and today's care of the protected natural area can be traced in the field. Price: € 10.00 per participant, Info/registration required by 4 pm the day before: Alfred Graff, mobile: 0172 2661284, email: vulkan-ag@arcor.de, Meeting point: Bereich Dollendorfer Kalkmulde, exact meeting point will be announced by e-mail approx. one week before the event

May 22, 2025 - Mar 21, 2026

In the heart of the volcanic Eifel lies Germany's most complete volcano, the "Rockeskyller Kopf". As it is a spectacular outcrop, it is rightly called the "mother" of all Eifel volcanoes. It shows all stages of its development from the initial explosive maar stage to strombolian eruptions and lava-spewing fireworks. Erlebnis Erdgeschichte: Führung Vulkangarten Steffeln
May 14, 2025 - Oct 29, 2025

Landscape hike with the "Volcano Gardeners" of the Eifelverein through the volcanic village of Steffeln to the Steffeln Volcano Garden. The former lava mining at the Steffelnkopf has decimated the volcanic cone, which used to be more than 600 m high. This exposed the volcanic layers inside. The exposed volcanic vent was converted into an experimental and educational volcano. Duration: approx. 2 hours, distance approx. 2.5 km, Info: Tel.: 06593-2369903, Price: adults 4.00 €, children 2.00 €, per family 10.00 €, No registration required
