Ausstellung "Die Phantastischen Welten"
May 18, 2024 - Jun 2, 2024
Wittlich
Exactly 100 years ago, André Breton's "Manifesto of Surrealism" was published, a key document from 1924 that called for the enigmatic, abysmal, bizarre and marvellous of the imagination in art.
We are taking the 100th anniversary as an opportunity to tie in with a central movement in art history with the exhibition "The Fantastic Worlds of Alexandra Müller-Jontschewa and Hans-Peter Müller". Alexandra Müller-Jontschewa and Hans-Peter Müller's pictures are congenial to their role models:
They place the distance from reality and the surprising aspects of our dream worlds at the centre of their work. Like the surrealists, they see our "beautiful dreams" in the completely unexpected - but also the flipside; the "nightmares" that reveal our inner abysses.
The works of the German-Bulgarian artist and the Leipzig artist are fascinating panoramas of the mysterious and the beauty of the improbable.
