Ulmen
Experience point No. 2 of the hike "Witches, Executioners & Rogues" takes you deep into the Maybush – to a crime scene from long ago.
In the Maywald, where cattle were once driven, as the barren soils of the Eifel provided little fodder, a grim crime took place in the year 1719. Station 2 is the crime scene of the first criminal case on the route: Somewhere in the so-called "Marx Hole," two community members from Ulmen killed the local pastor Johann Schweißthal. Although the pastor was known to be domineering and quarrelsome, the exact circumstances of the crime remain unclear, as they are not mentioned in the old writings. A truly ominous case, in which it is known that the two perpetrators were brothers who were later excommunicated. Boundary disputes may have been the cause of the conflict.
From here, the hike continues to the next point, the "Wingertstälchen".
