Formerly a Roman settlement on the important Roman road between Trier and Cologne, today a tranquil place for cultural and scenic enjoyment: Marcomagus in the Archaeological Landscape Park.

The 1250 years old city of Düren can proudly look back on its industrial past, with many enterprises still working worldwide until today. The proverbial wealth of Düren’s entrepreneurial families Schoeller, Hoesch and others in the former “city of millionaires” established a rich patronage tradition with numerous cultural, social and educational institutions, which is portrayed by the exhibition “Düren’s Golden Years, 1871-1914”.

The museum is housed in the former home of the Eifel poet Peter Zirbes. The modest size of the building with its original furnishings is an example of the simple standard of living of the Niederkailer and Landscheider traders.
