Wanderung vom Vulkanpark Infozentrum zum Römerbergwerk Meurin
Plaidt
Combine the two impressive volcano park facilities with a hike!
Start at the Volcano Park Information Center, which provides exciting information about the volcanic past of the Eastern Eifel. Follow the small path to the left of the Volcano Park Information Center over a bridge into the "Rauscherpark". There, the "Nette" flows in numerous small cascades over huge basalt blocks. Numerous information boards illustrate how the "Nette" has been making its way through the lava flow of the Wannen volcano group for over 200,000 years.
After the "Rauscherpark" you cross a small bridge into the "Nettepark". The first thing you will see there is an interesting collection of local historical boundary stones. Continue straight ahead and then turn left, passing an idyllic pond. Follow the path around the pond and keep left at the sign for the former "Noldensmühle" paper mill. The path then leads you out of the park to the right at the "Seniorenzentrum". The small café in the park invites you to take a short break. Now follow Mühlenstraße, past the church of St. Willibrord, to Miesenheimer Straße, where you will see Plaidt's village square on your left. The village square is actually called "Old Church Square" and takes its name from the fact that Plaidt's first church stood here. The enormous growth in the population of the village made it necessary to build a new, larger church in Mühlenstraße. Today, only the name and a small monument remind us of Plaidt's old church.
Follow Bahnhofsstraße a little way up to the right and then turn into Friedhofsstraße opposite the Volksbank. This leads you first past the cemetery and then past the town hall of the Pellenz municipality. You will now see a sports field and the "Pommerhof", an old estate with a long history. Cross the country road there and follow the path straight ahead until you come to a larger road, which you follow to the left for approx. 20 meters, then turn left again directly into a field path. Keep right at the next fork in the road. The path takes you past the "Krufter Bachtal" landscape monument. Here you can still see old tunnels in the tufa, which were created for mining the volcanic rock. Continue straight ahead until you reach the small village of Kretz. Here you follow the main road and then a little way down the road "In der Hohl" until you see the "Hahnenwiesenweg" on your right. This leads you along the Krufter Bach stream to an underpass, which takes you to Mühlenstraße. Follow this road across Meurinstraße and along a small meadow to the parking lot of the Römerberwerk Meurin. From here, a footpath leads past an idyllic fishing meadow to the impressive mine with its accessible tunnels and antique technical equipment.
