Sonnenweg [47]
Nideggen
The trail starts at the National Park gate in Nideggen and circles the Börde village of Berg for 13.5 km. The open cultural landscape at the eastern end of the Eifel offers wide views of the Rhine Valley and the Börde landscape between Jülich and Zülpich. Halfway along the route, you reach the Bördeblick "Zum Breidel", which explains what can be seen as far as the Rhine Valley and beyond. The second recommended stop is at Klemensstock. There are two panoramic views here. If you turn to the east, you can enjoy the Rhine Valley once again. If you look to the west, the Rur valley with its red sandstone cliffs and the Hetzinger Forest as part of the national park lie before and below you. The most beautiful time of year to visit is during the rape blossom at the end of April, when the region lights up in bright yellow.
Back in the old town, the friendly hosts of the Rureifel town of Nideggen await you.
The red sandstone cliffs pose a natural risk of rockslides. Please keep your distance from the edges of the cliffs and do not stay below them. Observe warning signs and instructions to avoid accidents and protect nature.
