Olbrücker Panoramaweg - Geopfad-Route M
Niederzissen
From the train station, follow the signs through the village of Niederzissen. You will pass a solidified volcanic mud stream (Lahar), which was converted into a bunker during the Second World War (guided tours on request). At the sports hall, you come to the K 49, where you turn left. At the junction with the K 50, continue to Oberzissen. From Sauerbrunnen, the path runs parallel to the Brenkbach stream, which it crosses after approx. 1.5 km (please note that this section of the route is very muddy after long periods of rainfall. Therefore, please take the Quackenbach valley from Oberzissen. Further information is available from the tourist information office). It then crosses the tracks of the Brohltal narrow-gauge railroad. You reach the Quackenbach valley via a ridge. From here, the trail climbs steeply up to Hain and the phonolite dome with Olbrück Castle. After visiting the castle (please note: the keep is only accessible as part of a guided tour).
In the village of Hain, turn left into the valley towards Niederdürenbach. The path to the heights, towards Oberdürenbach, takes you to Königssee. Pass the Rodder Maar and continue to Bausenberg near Niederzissen, the best-preserved horseshoe crater in Europe.
