Nat'Our Route 4 – Our Valley Bend
Bivels
On this fascinating tour, there are plenty of man-made attractions to explore, as well as the beautiful natural landscapes. Until the 1950s, the Our river created a bend as a small stream around the town of Bivels, which looked very different at that time. St. Nicolas hill was still without its hilltop in those days. The reservoir had not yet been built. The landscape is witness to one of the most impressive construction projects in Luxembourg of the mid-20th century. One of the largest pump storage power stations in Europe, near Vianden, is almost entirely hidden from view. Deep below the path, the water gushes in huge pipes between the reservoir and the upper basin onto St. Nicolas hill. The copper pit in Stolzemburg has many mining stories to tell from former times. Even older is the history of Burg Falkenstein castle, of which the residential building and the castle ruins still remain today (privately owned).
As well as all the fascinating technology, this tour also offers the most beautiful postcard motifs far and wide.
