Korret Umrundung - RKru3
Kruft
Directions:
Walk down Bahnhofstraße, at the traffic circle turn right into "Alte Chaussee" and then left into Kirchstraße to the church. Walk down Kirchstraße and turn left at the church steps into the small alley that leads you to Kolpingplatz. Keep to the right and follow Bachstraße past numerous stores before turning right into Taurengasse at the traffic circle. The lane leads directly into Plaidter Weg, where you keep left. At the next fork in the road, take Korretsweg on the right and follow the path straight on out of the village towards Korret. Follow the path to the foot of the Korret and keep left. Stay on the circular path around the Korret, paying no attention to the paths that join and branch off. Enjoy the impressive view of the magnificent Pellenz landscape. After you have walked over half of the circular route, you will see a chapel on your right. Take the path on the right up to the chapel and follow it to a fork where five paths meet. Take the second path from the right (with the barrier) and follow it up to the summit. Back at the five-way fork, take the path diagonally opposite on the left down to the circular path and keep right. You now come to the point where you started the Korret circuit and turn right back towards the town center. Take the path down to Korretswegs, left onto Plaidter Weg, right into Taurengasse, then left again to Kolpingplatz and finally right up the small alley to the parking lot.
Places of interest along the way:
Church of St. Dionysius: The original chapel dates back to 1722. The transept and west tower were built in 1841 according to the plans of the Royal Prussian building inspector Lassaulx (1781-1848). In 1913, the church was rebuilt by the Trier architect P. Marx.
St. John's Chapel at the Korret: Dr. Jean Schmitz had St. John's Chapel built in 1936 out of gratitude that he had returned home from the First World War in good health.
