Hochkelberg Panorama Trail

Niederehe

A route offering a number of wonderful views, with many places of historical interest over a two-day, nearly 38 kilometre-long tour from Nohn to Ulmen via Kelberg. The path takes you steadily uphill until you can look out far over the valley. The Heyerkapelle chapel is situated on the hill summit. A panel explains the history of the site. The next “education” stop is the Bodenbacher Drees mineral water spring. After a small hill, you later reach a shelter where there is an opportunity to stop for a rest with a view over the Trierbach valley. In the section of forest that follows, it’s worth taking a detour to a spring that emits carbon dioxide. At the end of the day, there is a view onto the tour stage destination of Kelberg, an important market town during the Middle Ages. Parts of the second stage lead over an old trading and military route, which was even used by Celtic farmers and Roman legionaries. Information about the route is given on basalt columns along the edge of the path. Numerous views, such as from the Höchstberg or Jacobsberg hills, make this stage particularly attractive. And at the end, there is a direct view onto one of the many “eyes” of the Eifel region, the “Ulmen maar”.
