Eifelsteig Stage 15
The 15th stage of the Eifelsteig leads from Kordel to Trier.
Continue on "Shank's pony" from Kordel along the Eifelsteig Trail towards Ramstein Castle. You then cross footbridges, ladders and suspension bridges as you proceed up the wildly romantic Butzer Valley. Passing a former Roman copper mine ("Pützlöcher" = cleaning holes) dating back to the 1st or 2nd century AD, the route takes you through the rocky landscape around Kordel and on towards Trier. On route, it is well worth making a short detour to the Geyersley (262 m above sea level) where you can savour the beautiful view of the meandering loops of the River Kyll and Ramstein Castle. Other highlights along this section include the Klausen Cave and Genoveva Cave, which are among the most impressive natural monuments of the Southern Eifel region. Cross the Kutbach stream, pass the Eifel Cross, Trier-Biewer and along the cliff path - offering magnificent views over to the Moselle and the Roman city of Trier - and you finally come to Trier.
Highlights along the way: Ramstein Castle; Butzer Valley with its suspension bridges and waterfalls; "Putzlöcher" - former Roman copper mine; Klausen Cave; Genoveva Cave; Coloured sandstone rocks; White House; City of Trier
