Directions:

From the parking lot, turn left down the main road, then keep right and turn into the street "In der Hohl". Follow this road straight ahead until it becomes "Hummerichshohl", which you follow uphill past the Zöller company to the Korret. At the top, keep left and follow the circular route. Enjoy the fabulous view and take the first path on the left downhill. It makes a sharp turn to the right, where there is a stone cross. Follow the path to the next crossroads and keep left there and at the next crossroads. After going straight on for a while, turn right onto the asphalt path and then immediately right again onto a dirt track. Keep left at the next opportunity and follow the path straight ahead into a small wood, at the end of which you will come to an open meadow and can already see Wernerseck Castle. After visiting the castle ruins, follow the path to the right down towards Plaidt. This leads you under the highway bridge onto the Wankelburgsweg. From here, a path branches off to the right into the park. Take this, past the "Burg-Quelle" sour water fountain , and follow it until you come to Burgstraße. Then turn left twice, first into the street "An der Pfaut" and then into Krezer Straße. Follow the latter through the village of Plaidt until you reach the country road (L117). Cross this road and follow Kretzer Straße. After the industrial estate, turn right onto the country lane and follow it until you reach a crossroads. Keep left and follow the path straight ahead to Kretz. Once in the village, first turn left and then follow the main road in a right-hand bend back to the church.

Wernerseck castle ruins (late medieval castle complex): The Archbishop of Trier, Werner von Falkenstein (1388-1418), began construction in 1401. It was intended to serve as a border fortress against the Archbishop of Cologne. However, the castle never fulfilled this purpose, as the borders shifted during construction.
