The hike begins at the beautiful and traditional youth hall. After a few 100 meters, there is a worthwhile ascent to the Michaelskapelle chapel. A slight ascent takes us up to the Lützenberg with an unobstructed view of Zülpich and Cologne. You reach the nature reserve "Vlattener Bachtal" and "Lützenberghang". The semi-arid nutrient-poor grassland is home to many rare animals and plants and is managed as part of a nature conservation contract.
The trail climbs slightly to the highest point of the district with a view of the Rhine Valley and the national park.
From here, the trail continues along several wayside crosses to the Mühlenberg. Here you can enjoy a view of the Börde towards Zülpich and the Jülich countryside.
In the direction of Wollersheim, the route continues across the fields before crossing the Bundesstrasse 265. The route heads back in a south-westerly direction and through the "Voreifel" nature reserve back to Vlatten.
