Ahrsteig Gesamtstrecke
Blankenheim
The AhrSteig hiking trail follows the most romantic tributary of the Rhine from its source to its mouth and winds its way through the countryside for 85.1 kilometers. The Celtic "Aha" (water) rises 421 meters above sea level from a tapped spring under a half-timbered house in Blankenheim, a charming little Eifel town. From there, it rushes through the Ahr Mountains and finally flows into the Rhine at Remagen.
The hiking route stretches over seven stages and leads through the impressive landscapes of the Eifel and the Ahr Valley. Even in the early 19th century, the Ahr Valley inspired famous "Rhine romantics" such as Gottfried Kinkel, Ernst Moritz Arndt, Karl Simrock and Ferdinand Freiligrath.
