WENET (Werner Neumann Electric Trio)  - Concert presented by the Jazz Club Wittlich e.V.

WENET - Concert on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 8 PM, at the Casino, Friedrichstraße 4, Wittlich

Tom Friedrich - Drums
Steffen Greisiger - Organ
Werner Neumann - Guitar

Great masters like Wes Montgomery, John Abercrombie, or John McLaughlin loved their organ trios and set benchmarks for this formation. Werner Neumann's "new" band WENET (Werner Neumann Electric Trio) combines this tradition with contemporary jazz rock, R&B, and soul. With Steffen Greisiger on the organ and Tom Friedrich on the drums, he found two magnificent collaborators for this project.
"In Werner Neumann's current trio WENET with organist Steffen Greisiger and drummer Tom Friedrich from the next generation, this knowing understatement is wonderfully evident. Everything retains its insightful casualness while also not forgetting humor. This band has far too many ideas to have to beat individual flashes of thought to death. Their music is fun, fusing tradition and departure, America and Europe, jazz and rock, staying true to itself while laying down its trails full of tricks and letting one piece arise from another. This results in a multifaceted album that flows seamlessly, indulgent and ready to go, dreamy and attack-rich, disciplined and spontaneous, traditional and modern, subtle and compact. It quotes Radiohead and Stravinsky, folk songs and campfire guitar, while letting Jon Lord, Billy Preston, and Jimmy Smith shine through, yet does not chase after the forefathers." (Uli Steinmetzger)
"... the Cologne guitarist Werner Neumann has now established himself as one of the most mature virtuosos of the European music scene. The stylistic versatility of Neumann is particularly astounding. He is equally at home in jazz, fusion music, and harder rock against any purism. ... It is especially on stage that the hidden musical roots of Werner Neumann come clearly to the fore, as he sweeps through the temperate jazz landscape with overdriven sound storms like Jimi Hendrix. Such surprising jumps and contrasts in the stylistic concept, which are never inappropriate but, on the contrary, extremely refreshing, are part of the guitarist's individual style, which has evolved over the years through a clever and successful intertwining of rock and jazz lineages." (Harald Rehmann in Deutschlandfunk, Jazzfacts "String Fire")
