The participatory and experiential concert for Wittlich

Whether standing or sitting, dancing or walking, in the midst of it all or observed from the outside: Music can be enjoyed in different ways.

The joint concert by Stegreif-Orchester and the Kulturkarawane project "ZusammenSpiel" is an invitation to rediscover orchestral music. For people who wouldn’t usually listen to classical music, who like to groove, who want to experience familiar repertoire anew. As the audience, you shape the free space: the Eventum as a concert hall, the spectator ranks – everything becomes a stage. Even the ticket price can be determined by you.

Here, two extraordinary musical approaches come together: professional, improvisation-friendly orchestral music and communal, inclusive music-making by people from diverse backgrounds. Under the program title "feel:free," the Eventum in Wittlich transforms into an open sound space where music can be experienced anew: freely, accessibly, and energetically.

Without a conductor, without sheet music, no chairs: The Stegreif Orchestra utilizes this gained freedom for improvisation and movement. The 30 young international musicians of this Berlin ensemble open new paths to classical music for themselves and the audience. With recompositions of classical works, Stegreif aims to expand the musical heritage through contemporary currents and enrich it with the various musical influences and backgrounds of the artists. Different musical styles from jazz to folk songs to techno will also be integrated.

In 2023, the Trier Kulturkarawane, together with Stegreif and the initial reception center in Trier, launched an improvisation project: 25 enthusiastic individuals from eleven nations rehearsed and made music together. They rediscovered tones, rhythms, and forms of expression without any sheet music and without reservations – out of joy in shared experiences. "ZusammenSpiel" continues this four-day experience. It stands for openness, diversity, and collective creation.

And it is an invitation to everyone to become part of a musical adventure. Both ensembles merge at our concert into a large sound body that allows for spontaneous encounters and co-creation by the audience. The project ZusammenSpiel is funded as part of the federal program "Social Cohesion - On Site. Networked. Connected." with funds from the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Rhineland-Palatinate Foundation for Culture.
