Kletterkurs DAV - Kletterschein toprope

A new course for obtaining the DAV climbing certificate "Toprope," which qualifies you to secure top rope climbers (as in this hall), will start in November 2025.

The course is conducted for climbing beginners as well as climbers with prior knowledge
and grants the right, after successfully passing the exam, to climb Toprope independently
and to belay in all climbing gyms.

In the Toprope belaying method, the rope is anchored at the top in a pulley, and the partner belays the climber from the ground.

Exam contents include proper tying in, setting up the belay, partner check and self-check, lowering, and Toprope climbing.

Friday and Saturday, 14th + 15th Nov 25
Friday or Saturday, 28th + 29th Nov 25
Fridays from 4:30 - 7:30 PM, Saturdays from 3:30 - 6:30 PM (schedule changes possible on the first day)

The course is conducted for climbing beginners as well as climbers with prior knowledge and grants the right, after successfully passing the exam, to climb Toprope and belay independently in all climbing gyms.

 The course includes:

• Material science and application of equipment
• Difference between Toprope climbing indoors and outdoors, difference to lead climbing
• Knots and belaying techniques
• Belaying with Grigri, Smart, and other belay devices
• Falling training
• Final exam

Participation in the first weekend is mandatory to take the exam on one of the two dates in the following week.
After successfully passing the exam (and it's really not that hard!), you will receive the "Toprope Climbing Certificate" from the German Alpine Club (DAV). With this certificate, you are qualified to climb and belay independently at the Steineberg Youth Center and any other climbing gym on the pre-attached Toprope.

The course costs 70.- Euros including 3 x entrance and rental equipment (climbing harness, carabiner, and belay device). Please wear comfortable, not too baggy sports clothing to the course and bring clean (gym) sneakers.

Participation from 13 years old and also suitable for seniors (for those under 18, parental consent is required according to the gym regulations).
