Author reading
Herfried Münkler, born in 1951, was a professor of political science at the Humboldt University of Berlin for many years. He is one of Germany’s most successful political interpreters and an essential, formative voice in the discussions of our time. Many of his books are considered standard works, such as "Empires" (2005), "The Germans and their Myths" (2008), "The Great War" (2013), and "The New Germans" (with Marina Münkler, 2016), all of which are bestsellers.
Most recently, the SPIEGEL bestseller "Power in Transition" (2025) was published. It is a profound, groundbreaking analysis that shows how Germany's role can and must be rethought if Europe wants to assert itself in the 21st century in the game of the great powers. "Rarely has a non-fiction book so perfectly captured, reflected, and analyzed a mood as 'Power in Transition,' concluded the daily newspaper 'taz.'
