Rathaus und Flammenengel

Rathaus und Flammenengel

Düren

The Town Hall designed by architect Denis Boniver has stood as a symbol of the high point of reconstruction after the Second World War since it was completed in 1959. The elevated platform with outside steps and the glazed bay window by the old main entrance are typical features of buildings constructed in the 1950s. The heritage-protected Town Hall is a prominent and distinctive structure at the heart of the town. It underwent extensive refurbishment and modernisation work as part of a three-year building project between June 2012 and June 2015.

The Angel in Flames memorial in front of the Town Hall was created by sculptor Adolf Wamper in November 1962. This statue commemorates the people affected by the worst air raid on Düren (on 16 November 1944) and all those who lost their lives during both world wars.

Guided tours of the Town Hall take place regularly.
