Hinkelsmaar
Bettenfeld
The Hinkelsmaar belongs to the Mosenberg volcanic group, which erupted about 80,000 years ago. The Hinkelsmaar represents the most recent eruption. It is surrounded only by a relatively flat rampart, which used to be filled with water. The funnel has a diameter of about 100 meters and a funnel depth of only about 10 meters. After precipitation, water stands intermittently in parts of the funnel, the intermediate bog.
Parking: Visitors should use the Hinkelsmaar/Kratersee parking lot or the parking lot at the fishing substitute water. To do so, simply follow the appropriate signs coming from Manderscheid via the L16 before entering Bettenfeld.
